Fire Safety Training

Fire ExThere were 27,500 fires in non-domestic premises in 2014, causing 21 fire related deaths and over 1,200 injuries. The financial cost of fires in the workplace to industry was in excess of £7.7 Billion pounds. Having well trained staff can greatly assist with the implementation of fire safety policy and management procedures as effective fire prevention can dramatically reduce the risk of fires occurring in the workplace. If in the worst case a fire does occur staff trained in the use of fire extinguishers can potentially intervene however eve in the worst circumstances and a fire grows out of control staff with appropriate training can ensure the evacuation is successful and also help minimize the risk of further spread, essential in ensuring business continuity.

Legal Requirements

In 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire safety) Order 2005 (RRO) changed fire safety in the work place. It placed the emphasis on employers to manage Fire Safety in the workplace more effectively. Fire Certificates were abolished and it became a legal requirement to have a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment in place to ensure all aspects of fire safety were being dealt with effectively. A key part in managing and planning fire safety in the workplace is to have well trained staff, trained at a suitable level for the risks identified and their role in your emergency plans. It is also a legal requirement under article 19 and 21 of the RRO.
